Who I am is what is around me-Poetry

Who I am is what is around me

I am the one who broke the golden rule in Eden
The one simple rule
Taking a bite of the sweet forbidden fruit and destroyed all that was
Seeing things through theses new eyes, a view I never imagined
I see all that is wrong and nothing that is right

I am the child with glassy full of tears
Lost in this shabby city, in this huge store
Seeing nothing but gigantic people who aren't familiar
Feeling sickly as if I am lost for good
Never to see my mother again, never to feel her warm touch again

I am the mother who isn’t able to feed her children tonight
They must not wait much longer or their fragile small bodies break like glass
Their stomach growl, Tearing me apart deep down inside
But I must act strong like a tree and show no fear though I am fragile and broken
They need me as much as I need them

I am the teenager locked away in this crème colored room
Kept away from everyone like I am a bad person
I just made a mistake, something small, secretive
Now they treat me like disease watching me every second of the day
Not allowing me near anything sharp because they are afraid I am going to try again

I am the steel gun you hold in your hand, preparing to shoot
Ready to take an instant innocent life away, all because of your own pain
Ready to ruin someone that believes in a faith you hate
Wanting to kill everyone just because you are who you are
Preparing to destroy a life forever

I am the man who doesn't belong in society
A danger to all, so they keep me locked behind bars
Afraid I may deal crack to some young child
Worrying that I am the main problem on the streets
Those other things don't matter till I am locked up behind these horrid bars

I am the red rose that sits in the yard,
Watching the human life pass me by, just as if it’s another day
Like nothing matters anymore
Life must go on
The cars speed by just like those walking by

I am the sun that danced in the sky, now setting
Showing the array of blues, pinks, and orange
Taking what was day and turning into night
Allowing the twinkling lights to appear in the sky
Letting the moon rise high, high above the sky

I am society
Full of hidden secretes
Full of truth
But full of lies
I am America
